The number of isomers of dibromoderivative (molar mass 186 g/mol) of an alkene .. What is the ans for this ?? the ans given is 3 but how ??? With the molar mass as 186 g/mol the C atoms come out to be a big value then how come the ans is 3??/ Pls i will approve the ans anyway help me aieee approaching n givin me the spine chills !!!

molar mass of bromine is 80 .... if molecule is dibromoderiavative then total mass of

bromine in the molecule is 80x2 = 160

total mass of molecule = 186       (given)

remaining mass = 26

now it is clear that 2 carbons & 2 hydrogens are also present in the molecule as

this will satisfy remaining molar mass 26 ...

now the given compound is C2H2Br2  , this is the required compound & also its molar mass is 186 ...

C2H2Br2 =>

1)C(Br)2 = CH2                        (both bromines are on same carbon)

2)CHBr = CHBr    (cis - trans)     (bromines are present on two carbons)

structure 2)  can give  geometrical isomerism , so it exists in cis & trans forms...

therefore total isomers are 3
