Pentane is a hydrocarbon which has an odd number of carbon atoms in it (5 carbon atoms).
Pentane can therefore be prepared by wurtz reaction of unsymmetrical alkanes !!!
Here is one way u can prepare pentane by wurtz reaction,
CH3CH2CH2Br + CH3CH2Br + 2Na --------> CH3CH2CH2CH2CH3 + 2NaBr
