there are two basic methods for preparation of salicyladehyde
1) reaction of phenol in presence of NaOH & CO2 ....
phenol + NaOH => phenoxide + CO2=> O Hydroxy benzoic acid
this product is now reduced in presence of LBAH or DBAH to get salisaldehyde ...
this is an important name reaction , KOLbes reaction ...
2)reaction of phenol in presence of strong base & carbon tetrachloride (CHCl3)
phenol + CHCl3 + NaOH => salisaldehyde...
this is also im name reaction called as reimer tiemer reaction...
