Dear Ramesh (1) diazomethane reacts with mercuric chloride [85] or bromide [86] to give either the monoalkyl- or dialkylmercurial. hence HgCl2 + CH2N2 ---------> Cl &ndash;Hg &ndash;CH2 &ndash;Cl -----------> Hg(CH2Cl) 2 Regards Arun (askIITians forum expert)
