while doping semiconductors, we usully use(accg to textbooks), only pentavalent and trivalent impurities... my question is why cant we use hexavalent and divalent impurities which provide more no. of charge carriers... and if we can use them, they are more efficient in enhancing the conductivity since they provide almost double the no. of electrons and holes....

The reason is that the size of these atom would not fit properly is the crystal lattice of the Si or Ge semiconductors.
