the area under v-t graph gives displacement. Ignoring the signs of the velocity and by all the areas under the curve gives distance travelled by the body. 
Thus area under v-t curve is
4*2 + 4*4 + 4*4 = 16
Distance travelled by the body in first 6s is 16m.
