A moderator is a material used in a nuclear reactor to slow down the neutrons produced from fission.Heavy water is used in certain types of nuclear reactors, where it acts as a neutron moderator to slow down neutrons

Moderator is used to slow down the fast moving nuetrons which are produced as a result of nuclear fission...generally nuetrons produced by uranium posses the energy of 2MeV...by usin the moderator this energy is reduced to 0.025eV....
Eg :- Graphite , water , heavy water , etc....
