Moderator is used to slow down the fast moving nuetrons which are produced as a result of nuclear fission...generally nuetrons produced by uranium posses the energy of 2MeV...by usin the moderator this energy is reduced to 0.025eV....
Eg :- Graphite , water , heavy water , etc....
