in the formation of a p-n junction diode, why is there a positive charge on the n-type side and a negative charge on the p-type side? isnt n-type side supposed to have a negative charge since it has more electrons and likewise the p-type side supposed to have a positive charge since it has holes? how does the potential barrier also have a positive and negative side?

I think you are asking why are the juction there is -ve charge on p side and +ve charge on side.
The reason is that n side has more elctrons and p side has more holes. Whe at the juction these two recombine, n side gets positive because its electrons that made it neutral are recombines and on p side, the doping element’s holes are combined fron n side.
