Azeotropes are a mixture of at least two different liquids. Their mixture can either have a higher boiling point than either of the components or they can have a lower boiling point.Azeotropes occur when fraction of the liquids cannot be altered by distillation.

The boiling point of the liquid rises, and the vapour becomes richer in compound B. When so much compound A has been evaporated that the liquid has reached the composition b, the vapour has the same composition as the liquid. Evaporation then occurs without change of composition. The mixture is said to form an azeotrope

The name azeotrope comes from the Greek words for ‘boiling without changing’.
