The binding energy of deuteron is 2.2 MeV and that of 2 He4 is 28 MeV. If two deuterons are fused to form one 2 He4, then the energy released is (a) 23.6 MeV (b) 19.2 MeV (c) 30.2 MeV (d) 25.8 MeV

(a)

1D2 ---> 2He4

Energy released = 28 - 2 × 2.2 = 23.6

MeV (Binding energy is energy released on formation of Nucleus)
