question mark

1)why does light slow down in a denser medium?if there`s some kind of force then it should constantly de-accelerate which doesn`t happen so why does it slow down?2)why does a candle extinguish when air(even hot) is blown?because necessary conditions for combustion includes oxygen, required temp.,fuel and when air is blown all the conditions are still there.

The ligh slows down in a denser medium because the wavelenth of the light depends upon the refractive index of the medium. wavelengh in medium= wavelength in vaccum/refractive index.
thus th speed decreases because speed= wavelength X Frequency.
