In case u want to know how to calculate that.
Let a force F is applied on lower block and you want to calculate the a maximum common acceleration.
Find the limiting friction force(say F1) between the two blocks. This force will provide acceleration to the top block. Thus maximum acceleration the upper block can have is F1/m.
This is the maximum common acceleration for both the blocks to move together.
