The Moon has no atmosphere as its escape velocity is very small compared to the root mean square velocity of various gases like oxygen, nitrogen, argon and other gases.

This velocity is quite small when compared with the root mean square velocity of various atmospheric gases like oxygen, nitrogen, argon and other gases. They escape from the surface of the Moon very easily. As the gases escape, there are no gases present in the Moon to form its atmosphere. Therefore, the Moon has no atmosphere.
