The acceleration in SHM is directly proportional to its displacement from the mean position and is always directed towards the same. So at the mean position, the acceleration is zero. For an intuitive idea, think of a spring system in SHM. While it is moving towards the mean, it will gain speed as the acceleration is directed towards the mean. So when it reaches the mean, it`ll have maximum speed. After that it`ll experience negative acceleration as it has left the mean behind and hence lose speed.Thank You,Regards.
