Dear student,
When there are multiple bodies combined together, then just the FBD on a particular body would help and the constraints have to be taken into consideration.
The newton’s laws are valid in an Inertial reference frame whereas when a body is accelerated and therefore you have to define the magnitude and direction of the accelerations of the objects.
