When a sewing machine needle moves up and down, when it hit the throat plate it breaks in to pieces which fly away in different direction, I just want to calculate the velocity with which those particles are moving away and how much magnetic field is required to catch/ attract those particles. Is there any formula which can help to calculate the both the things?
I am applying conservation of momentum techniques to calculate the velocity. Is this concept right? If not that what should I apply?
Please help me.

For magnetic field I don't have idea but for velocity conservation of linear momentum is right method
