mechanics is besically a brach of physics and applied mathematics deals with motion and forces producing motion. 
and in any other way u can define mechanices as a part of working object that means the science that deals with the working of mechines . 
IT HAVE A GREAT IMPORTANCE IN OUR LIVES . 
1- at most every mechanicalinstrument is running by principle of mechanics "
2- without knowing the mechanics its even difficult for mankind to design a simple cfl bulb . 
3- imagine your lives without a cfl bulb and generator , that will be too disastrous . 
4- without mechanics , the cars , buses making will be so much difficult . 
in last , i can say mechanics is the branch which govern this universe .
