a quantity expressing a body`s tendency to resist angular acceleration, which is the sum of the products of the mass of each particle in the body with the square of its distance from the axis of rotation.Moment of inertia may be expressed in units of kilogram metre squared (kg. m2) in SI units moment of inertia is a measure of how difficult it is to rotate a particular body about a given axis. significance: Greater the mass concentrated away from the axis, greater the moment of inertia.

Moment of inertia is the name given to rotational inertia, the rotational analog of mass for linear motion. It appears in the relationships for the dynamics of rotational motion. The moment of inertia must be specified with respect to a chosen axis of rotation.its s.i. unit is kg-m²
