Consider the fall of feather and a massive object from the tall building. It is obvious that the object would reach the ground earlier as compared to the feather. This is because the effect of air resistance on the feather is large relative to that on object. Therefore one cannot neglect the effect of air resistance in such situations.
The effect of air resistance is significant for the person falling with a parachute. It is due to the upward force from the air that the parachute can fly in the air and avoid the deadly landing of the person. When the force resulting from the air balances the weight of the person, the person falls with a constant velocity, hence no acceleration.

A piece of paper when falling from upward toward the earth surface can take long time to reach on the ground , therefore this is due to an effect of air resistance compared to magnitude of a paper also a piece of will have non-direction it will be like zig zag.
