It is sometimes called the law of inertia because part of newton`s law is that an object at rest stays at rest, and then inertia is an object`s reluctance to move.

As motion of body is dependent on inertiaIf a body is at rest it continues to be rest until there is no external force. and similarly if body is in uniform motion it continues to be at uniform motion until there is no ext force. This can be proved by Galileo`s experiment
