We know poisson’s ratio represented by 1/m. And here what is the meaning of m?

poisson’s ration is denoted by 1/\mu
here \mu means the ratio of lateral strain to longitudinal strain.
In mathematical form,
\mu= – lateral strain/ longitudinal strain
Note- Here – sign comes,  because if there is any elongation in longitudinal side
then ofcourse there would be compression in lateral side
