The rod rotates about the pivot. So write torque due to gravity, giving you value of angular acceleration (3g/2l). Now, the forces acting on rod are reaction due to hinge and gravitational force. The net acceleration of centre of mass will be l/2 * angular acceleration. Set this equal to net force (Mg - N) and you get Mg/4 as value of N.
