For time scale as short as 24 hours, the revolution of earth around the sun is very small. So the sun can be assumed to be at same position from earth, but due to revolution of earth around its own axis, once a point on surface of earth will face the sun(daytime) and due to the rotation, after around 12 hours, it would be at the exact opposite side(nightime).
