The lift force in an airplane is provided by its specially designed airfoil. Such airfoils are designed in such a way that the pressure below it is larger than above it. When ice is accumulated on an airplane wing, it disrupts the structure of the airfoil. Due to it, the smooth flow of the air layers over the wings is highly disrupted. This makes the wing unable to maintain the corresponding pressure difference across the disrupted airfoil. So, the wings of the airplane would not be able to generate the lift force.
