Someone claims that when a skillful high jumper clears the bar, the jumper's center of mass actually goes under the bar. Is this possible?

Yes, it is possible that the center of mass of the jumper goes under the bar and outside the body of jumper. However, this can happen only when the jumper curves his body while crossing the bar such that the shape of the jumper body becomes somewhat similar to the shape of the boomerang.
It is important to note that the center of mass highlights the distribution of the mass of system of particles. When the jumper curves his/her body, the center of mass try to get closer to the center of its curvature, which is just below the bar crossed by the jumper.

yes, while crossing over the bar , jumper makes a semi-circle.his semi-circular body and air present in this semi-circle forms a system whose center of mass is at the center of this circle which is under the bar.

As the jumper jumps, while crossing the bar,his body adopt a curved shape.The centre of mass of his body is now below his body,which actually goes under the bar,as the centre of mass of a curve is nearer to the curvature.Thus the claim is correct.
