Ruth and Roger are cycling along a path at the same speed. The wheels of Ruth's bike are a little larger in diameter than the wheels of Roger's bike, How do the angular speeds of their wheels compare? What about the speeds of the top portions of their wheels?

On the top most points on wheel, the tangential velocity of the wheels are in the same direction as the velocity due to translational motion. Therefore the net speed is the addition of the two. If the wheels are rolling without slipping then the velocity due to translation motion is equal to the tangential velocity, such that the net velocity of the top most point of wheel is233-914_1.PNG
