Draw the FBDs of the blcks in both two cases separately after applying the force P.
Case 1:
Fbd for 3m blcok will be as it is exerting on 3m mass:
P – N1 = 3ma1 …...................(1)
FBD for 2m mass:
N1 = 2ma1 …...............(2)
solving eqns. (1) and (2)
N1 = 2/5P ….........................................................(A)
Case 2:
fotce is acting on 2m mass:
Fbd of mass 2m:
P – N2 = 2ma2
FBD of mass 3m =>
N2 = 3ma2
solving these 2 eqns.
N2 = 3/5P ….....................(B)
Dividing eqns . (A) and(B)
we get
N1/N2 = 2/3 = > same as 2:3
