Consider the wire is making an angle of # with the normal . Then for the wire to be in rest Tension T in the wire must balance its weight , equation for this is given as (2Tsin# = mg) since # can’t be zero (IF # IS ZERO THEN WE THAT mg WILL BECOME ZERO WHICH IS NOT POSSIBLE) , so the wire isn’t straight since # is not equal to zero hence it must be parabolic.
