Fiberglass pole such as carbon fiber has the property of elasticity. The athlete applies a force on the fiber glass pole; it will bend and store some elastic energy due to its elastic nature of the fiber glass. When the athlete passes the bar, the stored elastic energy in the fiber glass will transfer to the athlete. Therefore athlete will get more energy when it passes the bar. That is why pole vaulting was transformed when the wooden pole was replaced by the fiber glass pole.
