let the total distance be x
let (1/m)x dist is travlld with acc a and (1/n)x with -a and the time taken be t1 and t2 resp.
the vel vs time graph will be a triangle with base t1+t2 and height Vmax
the area under the graph will give us the displacement.this tri can be divided into two parts.
area undrf the 1st tri=1/2xt1xVmax= (1/m)x
area undr 2nd tri=1/2xt2xVmax= (1/n)x
 
t1=2x/(mVmax)........1
t2=2x/(nVmax)….….…....2
 
let t be total time taken,t=t1+t2=add 1 and 2 from above
 
u will get t=(2x/Vmax)x(m+n/mn)..........3
 
now avg vel=total disp(x)/total time(t)=( (1/m)x + (1/n)x)/t.................4
put 3 in 4
 u will get Vavg/Vmax=1/2
