Coefficient of restitution is defined as the ratio of velocity of separation and velocity of approach along the line of impact.
Let the velocity of ball before colliding horizontal surface is u, then velocity is u cos θ
Given that particle moves after collision in horizontal direction, so the velocity of the particle just after the collision along the direction of line of impact is v sin θ
The coefficient of restitution is,
e=vsinθ/u cos θ= (v/u)tan θ
here v = utanθ
so e = tan2θ = 1/3
