Dear Aman

An electron withdrawing group or EWG draws electrons away from a reaction center. When this center is an electron rich carbanion or an alkoxide anion, the presence of the electron-withdrawing substituent has a stabilizing effect.
Examples of electron withdrawing groups are
·         halogens (F, Cl);
·         nitriles CN;

For inductive effect in goc the best way to identify +I and -I effect is....... all alkyl and all anion are +I group while rest are -I group...ex NO2 , cl , OH etc are -I while  ch3 , O(minus), CH2(minus) etc are +I
