If you notice the net displacement is 0 but the distance covered is not zero.
Th particel moves to x=10 m and then after a halt moves to x=20m and then again comes back to original position.
Total Distance= 40 m
Time taken= 8 s

Hence the average speed= 5 m/s

Avg speed= total distance travelled/ total time elapsed
= (20+20)/8
=5m/s
