2095 Points
Dear student,The presure inside water at same level must be same. Hence pressure at all points along the dotted line must be same. The pressure at the given line would be$\dpi{80} P_0+\rho g(20)$, since the pressure at inlet R is(open to atmosphere). Since tube M is also open to atmosphere, to make pressure at dotted line level equal to$\dpi{80} P_0+\rho g(20)$, water must rise to 20cm height.Pressure at the top of tube N is lesser than the atmospheric pressure due to it beingbelow the level by 40cm.Hence pressure at the top of N is$\dpi{80} P_0-\rho g (40)$Hence to make pressure at the bottom of N equal to$\dpi{80} P_0+\rho g (20)$,$\dpi{80} P_0-\rho g (40)+\rho g(h_N)=P_0+\rho g(20)$$\dpi{80} \implies h_N=60cm$
