An automobile is moving along a highway. The driver is applying the brake in such a way that there is no skidding or sliding. So, the kinetic energy of the block decreases. Since there is no skidding and sliding, the increase in internal energy might be observed as a slight increase in the temperature of the brake. Thus, the loss of kinetic energy will appear in the form of thermal energy in the brakes. Therefore, there is a chance of warming of the brake.
