Dear student,

In the electrical discharge tube, energy is given to electrons to strike the atoms futher to ionize them to obtain one more electron and then they further ionize more atoms and so on. Hence to provide such a high energy, high voltage is needed.

The more the number of gas molecules in the tube, the more difficult it would be to ionize them. Hence less number of gas molecules are maintained in the tube and hence low pressure.
