In building "skyscrapers," what forces produced by the movement of air must be counteracted? How is this done? (See "The Wind Bracing of Buildings," by Carl W. Condit, Scientific American, February 1974, p. 92.)

Engineers used certain wind-compensating damper system when they designed skyscrapers to counteract forces produced by the movement of air. Such system is installed on the top of the skyscrapers. The system is a complex system involving oil hydraulic system. It moves from back to forth when confront with force produced by the movement of air. This allows the weight of the skyscraper to move from one side to the other. Thus, it protects the skyscraper from being damaged.
