let the velocity is u and retardation is a and stoppind distance s
then
 02 =  u2 – 2as
then s = u2/2a
If velocity of car decrease by 50%
then
u2/4 = u2 – 2ad
then d = 3u2/8a
so it is 75% of the stopping distance.
