If the earth stops spinning , it is going to be a ruckus on the face of the earth. Consider the following :
- the earth spins at over 1000 miles per hour at the equator on its own axis.
- So, if the earth stops spinning suddenly, everything that is tied to the earth will start flying with the speed of 1000 mph eastwards. This includes the atmosphere creating winds as strong as the atomic blast.
- The momentum would send giant tsunamis sweeping more than 17 miles inland in less than a minute.
- An entire earth day would become 365 days long !!!! That's 6 months of continuous scorching sunshine, followed by 6 months of frigid nights.
- The sun would rise in the west and set in the east just once in a year!!
- The earth's spin creates a centrifugal force that creates a bulge at the equator, over the time this bulge will flatten out.
- The oceans would migrate to the poles where the gravity is the strongest, creating two super oceans and one giant continent in the middle.
- The magnetic field will slowly fade away, making earth prone to deadly cosmic rays.
