y be speed of river

X+y = d / 30

X-y = d/ 60

2x = d/20

X = d / 40

							Let s1 be the speed of boat in still water and s2 be the speed of the river.Let D be the distance covered by the boat.So, D/(s1+s2) =1800      (1)D/(s1-s2) =3600.       (2)Solving the equation we have, s1=3s2D=1800(s1+s1/3).       (because from above                                        equation s2= s1/3)D=2400s1So, Time taken by boat to cover distance D in still water=D/s1 = 2400/s1= 2400seconds = 40 minutes
