Dear student,
To solve this question, a few things need to be known:
  • Is the string massless or it has mass of its own.
  • Is the string extensible.
The tension in the string would depend on the rate of change of mass with time. There would be weights acting on each of the two persons. Also, as each person tries to climb up, the person pulls the string downwards and thereby the other person is pulled upwards, so there would be forces acting asa result of motion of the other person.
