Since, while dealing with the co-ordinate axes, we assume part above the origin as positive and below as negative.
Similarly,iIn the given solution, they have considered the downward direction of acceleration as negative and upward direction as positive.
That’s why acceleration is posotive (downward) and velocity as negative (upward)
