hey sir,i wanted to ask you something

im a student of class XI science from punjab state board

i have Modern's abc of physics text book

In chapter of Friction, there is a topic called Work done against friction

i recently bought H C Verma's Concepts of Physics Vol 1 & 2

but i was unable that topic in H C Verma's book

Why is that so ?

Is it because its not in JEE syllabus ?

In what ways H C Verma's book is better than Modern's abc of physics ?

Please reply as soon as possible!

It's great that you're diving into physics and exploring different textbooks! The topic of work done against friction is indeed covered in Modern's ABC of Physics, but it might not be explicitly detailed in H.C. Verma's "Concepts of Physics." This can be a bit confusing, so let’s break it down.

Understanding the Focus of Each Textbook

Modern's ABC of Physics is designed to cater to a wide range of students, including those preparing for various competitive exams. It often includes topics that may not be central to the JEE syllabus but are still relevant for a comprehensive understanding of physics. On the other hand, H.C. Verma's books are more focused on conceptual clarity and problem-solving, which is essential for JEE preparation.

Why Work Done Against Friction Might Be Missing

The absence of a dedicated section on work done against friction in H.C. Verma's books does not mean the concept is unimportant. Instead, it might be integrated into broader discussions about energy, motion, and forces. The JEE syllabus emphasizes understanding fundamental concepts and applying them to solve problems, which is why Verma's approach may not isolate every topic as Modern's does.

Comparing the Two Textbooks

Both textbooks have their strengths, and choosing one over the other often depends on your learning style and goals. Here are some points of comparison:

  • Conceptual Clarity: H.C. Verma excels in explaining concepts clearly and providing a logical flow of ideas. This helps students grasp the underlying principles of physics.
  • Problem-Solving: Verma's books include a variety of problems that challenge students to apply concepts, which is crucial for exams like the JEE.
  • Depth of Content: Modern's ABC may cover a broader range of topics, including those that are less emphasized in competitive exams, making it useful for a more general understanding.
  • Illustrations and Examples: H.C. Verma often uses real-world examples and illustrations that can make complex ideas more relatable.

How to Approach Your Studies

To make the most of both textbooks, consider the following strategies:

  • Use Modern's ABC for foundational knowledge: Start with the topics that interest you or that you find challenging. This will help build your confidence.
  • Switch to H.C. Verma for problem-solving: Once you feel comfortable with the concepts, tackle the problems in Verma's book to strengthen your application skills.
  • Supplement with other resources: If you find a topic like work done against friction particularly challenging, look for online resources, videos, or additional textbooks that cover it in detail.

In summary, while H.C. Verma's books may not cover every topic in the same way as Modern's ABC, they offer a strong foundation in concepts and problem-solving that is essential for success in physics, especially for competitive exams. Balancing both resources will give you a well-rounded understanding of the subject.
