The correct option is (A) to increase the force pushing the car forward.


An engine with constant power output drives an automobile. When the auto approaches a hill the driver shifts from high gear to low gear because in the low gear, the number of rotation of the tire is less comparable to the rotation of tire in the high gear. So the driving force is more in the low gear comparable to the high gear in an automobile. Therefore the driver shifts from high gear to low gear when the auto approaches a hill to increase the force pushing the car forward. Thus option (A) is correct.
