A weight hangs by a spring scale from the ceiling of an elevator. The weight of the object will act in the downward direction. As the elevator accelerating in upward direction, the tension acting on the body which hangs by a spring scale from the ceiling will be greater than the weight of the body. This tension will show in the reading of the spring scale and that will be greatest. This condition is equivalent to the elevator is descending with decreasing speed. Therefore the reading of the spring scale will be greatest (c) when the elevator descending with decreasing speed.
As the elevator descending with increasing speed, the weight of the body will be greater than the tension acting on the body. This tension will show in the reading of the spring scale and that will be least. Therefore the reading of the spring scale will be least (d) when the elevator descending with increasing speed.
