A wheel is rolling along the ground with a speed of 2m/s. The magnitude of the velocity of the points at the extremities of the horizontal diameter of the wheel is equal toa) 2√10 b) 2√3 c) 2√2 d)2
The quickest way to solve this is to remember that (i) as you know, every point on the wheel has the same angular velocity ωω about the rotation axis (whichever axis is chosen), (ii) a wheel which is rolling without slipping is instantaneously rotating about the point of contact PP with the ground, and PP is instantaneously at rest.Hence answer will be option D
Im sorry to say but the answer given in the key is 2√2.
Use formula v=2vsin(a/2)a= vertical angle with centreSo on putting values we get,v=2x2×sin45=2√2(D)
But why sin 45..? And are there any conditions for using this formula? Please do answer fast.Thank you
