A uniform disk, of mass M and radius R, lies on one side initially at rest on a frictionless horizontal surface. A constant force F is than applied tangentially at its perimeter by means of a string wrapped around its edge. Describe the subsequent (rotational and translational) motion of the disk.

The linear acceleration a of the disk can be written using Newton’s second law of motion as,

The force F is also responsible for rotating the disk about its axis of rotation passing through the center of disk, and perpendicular to surface of disk. The torque experienced by the disk is,
