A stone is thrown upward from the top of a tower with some initial speed and it reaches the ground in t1 seconds. Another stone is thrown with the same initial speed downwards and it reaches the ground in t2 seconds. In how much time a stone will reach the ground if the stne is released and allowed to fall freely under gravity from the saame place.

Assuming upward direction as negative and downward as positive.
h = – ut1 + (½)gt12   – (1)
h = ut2 + (½)gt22     -(2)
h =  (½)gt2
(1)*t2 + (2)t1
h(t1 + t2) = (½) gt1t2(t1 + t2)
So h = (½) gt1t2
(½)gt2 = (½) gt1t2
So t = (t1t2)1/2.
