they said it reaches to point of projection after some time which means it returns to the same place
so displacement is zero

and distance travelled is 60 m because upward journey 30 m and downward journey 30 m
total distance = upward distance travelled + downward distance travelled

For the vertical projection ,distance covered to reach max height is 30m, since distance is a scaller quantity
But remember that displacement is a vector quantity and so it has got both magnitude and dirrection so
Displacement =-30m    The negative indicate the reversed motion of the stone

For the vertical projection ,distance covered to reach max height and back again is 60m, since distance is a scaller quantity
But remember that displacement is a vector quantity and so it has got both magnitude and dirrection so
Displacement =-30m    The negative indicate the reversed motion of the stone

When we project an object vertically upwards and it returns to the ground then it's distance is 2H(in this case H=30m therefore distance travelled=60m)
But if we talk about displacement it is zero because we have again came to the position where we started its like you started your journey from your home and returned to your home then your displacement is 0
