Let the acceleration of both the blocks be a when a force F is applied to them.
now the acceleration of the system = Fnet/total mass
a   =   F M 1 + M 2
and newtons second law force on mass M2  is
F =   Mx a
   =   M 2 F M 1 + M 2   =   M 2 F M 1 + M 2
and force on M1 is    M1xa
M 1 F M 1 + M 2   =   M 1 F M 1 + M 2
